You just need a few simple tips to clean your kitchen sink effectively. Once you follow this method, you’ll have a clean, shining sink each every time. We like to make sure our sink is clean before going to bed each night so as to avoid diseases as a result of rodents and other disease causing organisms. Between your busy schedule and other activities calling your name, it’s easy to let dishes pile up or leave leftover food scraps in the drain without running the disposal.
Dirty dishes, food particles rinsed from dishes, pots and cutting boards. These are the things that make sinks one of the dirtiest spots in your home. Fortunately, you don’t have to bleach the sink every day to keep your home healthy. Everyday dish soap or natural cleaners like baking soda and vinegar, coupled with a good scrub brush, can keep germs at bay.
Simple and Effective ways to clean Kitchen Sink
1. Sanitize the Sink Basin
First, make sure your sink is completely cleared of food items, coffee mugs, or dish racks, plates and the rest. Then, give your sink a quick pre-rinse to wash down any visible crumbs. Once that’s done, grab your rubber gloves and get ready to scrub! Run hot water into the drain, this will help eliminate bad odor and soften any gooey materials that may threaten to clog the drain. Alternatively, boil a pot of water and pour that down, as it will help loosen any caked-on gunk in your drain. Be sure to wet down the entire sink through this process. Do this several times a week.
2. Wipe Down Faucets and Handles
No matter the material, all faucets and handles can be cleaned using soapy water. Use a sponge or brush to wipe them down and a toothbrush for those super hard-to-reach areas. Still seeing white spots after your scrub? That’s lime buildup from the minerals in your tap water. Adding a spoonful of vinegar to the soapy water mixture and doing one final scrub should do the trick.
3. Start Scrubbing!
Give your sink a good scrub with a soap-dispensing brush. A mixture of mild dish soap and water is the best way to clean most sinks, particularly those with more delicate surfaces like copper or enameled cast iron. Baking soda and water pastes work on tougher sinks, such as stainless steel, but you’ll want to avoid acidic cleaners like vinegar on concrete, porcelain, or enameled cast iron. Baking soda is abrasive but not enough to scratch stainless steel or other types of sinks. Scrub your sink from the top down so that you are working your way towards the drain.
